The internet Also known as: theNet the single worldwide computer network that interconnectsother computer networks, on which end-user services, such asWorld Wide Web sites or data archives, are located, enabling data and other information to be exchanged. A global communication network that allows almost all computers worldwide to connect and exchange information. Someof the early impetus for such a network came from the U.S.government network ARPAnet, starting in the 1960s.
Describe how the internet is used? I think it would be easier to ask what it's not used for! We are at point where you no longer have to leave your house for anything. Socializing, banking/bill paying, shopping, education and entertainment are just a few examples of what the internet is used for. As stated above, I couldn't imagine life today without it.

The U.S Department of Defense developed the first version of the internet during the 1970s to allow communication among researchers working on DOD projects in about 30 different locations. In the 1980s, just as desktop computers were becoming common, the National Science Foundation funded a high-speed connection among university centers based on the ARPAnet structure. An unexpected benefit occurred during this time ,where as, a person accessing a university network from home or school could also get access to any site connected to that network. This connection began to be called the gateway to all networks, and what we now call the internet was born. Though most people think of the internet as synonymous with the World Wide Web (WWW), the later really is a subset of the internet system. The WWW is an internet service that links sites around the world through hypertext, texts that contain links to other texts.
Describe how individuals and businesses connect to the internet? We all have access to the internet, no matter where we are or the time of day. For an individual connecting at home, it's a matter of contacting an internet service provider and setting up a plan for a monthly fee. There are, however, some schools, libraries and restaurants where individuals can connect for free. Starting a business in today's date and time requires you to be on the internet or you will soon fail, as I stated earlier, you really don't have to leave your home to purchase anything these days.
